What’s Happening

Cat's out of the bag! I've been commissioned to do a big ole project for Sony PlayStation. I get to art up their Madison office, and I'll bring you with me along the way. Five foot canvases?! No problem.
Contracts are signed, canvases are in hand, and all the plans are in place. I created some mock-ups for them to choose from this past summer. I'm looking forward to getting this underway for them!
Keep checking back here for updates.

Mock-Ups

The folks at Sony have been wonderful to work with! When I met with representative regarding the project, they requested I incorporate some themes from Madison that would be recognizable but still abstract in true Hanna style. I sent them about a dozen mock-ups and ideas(some are pictured here). I included things such as shapes/colors of the Madison flag, subtle imagery of the capitol building with UW's black and red colors, and the gorgeous terrace sunburst chairs.

They ultimately decided on going with the one pictured in the top right here - 3 large pieces with hints of the terrace chair sunburst shapes, in some of their iconic yellow, orange, and green shades.

Pieces are in the works, and my hands are currently bright yellow!

Progress

Things are coming together for the Sony project. What you're seeing here is layers of texture, paint, and some hints of terrace chairs. Next steps include adding definition, black outlines, and script. Once I'm happy with how the works look, it's time to protect each piece with an isolation coat and varnish that'll keep them safe from dust, UV rays, and other debris. Once this is cured, the pieces will be framed in beautiful walnut float frames and will be prepared for hanging. Each will have a certificate of authenticity to confirm their originality. I plan on having these dropped off by the beginning of March, and I can't wait to see how they look hung on their walls.

Approval

Yesterday I submitted a mockup with final artwork images to my contact at Sony. I figured, being the weekend, I wouldn't hear back right away with their approval or request for adjustments. Luckily, I got a response right away - and the best one can get! They approve and are more than pleased with the work, which is the best case scenario. That means I can get these varnished, ready for hanging, and framed.

Commissions can be a difficult thing. With work that is already created, someone can see it, like it, and want to have it. With a commission, I'm throwing a little caution to the wind to make something in my style that I think someone would like. It doesn't always work out the first time, and that's understandable. We're all different and have different ideas. I ask investigative questions and offer a few samples to see what might work for their project. There's a lot to take into consideration like the client's space, decor, preferences, timeline, budget, and color scheme. These can be a real challenge, but anyone that knows me knows that's a lot of fun to me. Challenge is growth, and challenge is exciting.

This project has been a welcome challenge, and Sony's been excited and helpful the whole way through. I'm looking forward to getting these polished up and delivered!

Delivery

The paintings have been delivered! Packing the work was as fun as it always is (so glamorous), but delivering the pieces was easy as pie. The works will now reside in the US Bank Plaza on the square in downtown Madison, WI. Once the paintings are hung, I'll share more about it!
